Andy Kluger rescued Hawaii Air Ambulance from bankruptcy in 1997 seeing the importance of air medical transport in the islands.
"I was involved already in medical businesses and I saw that it needed funding in Hawaii," Kluger said. "It was realizing my love for Hawaii, coming here as a visitor a lot, that the islands needed this type of service."
"I was willing to seriously invest money in here, make Hawaii my home, and rescue the company," he added.
Despite making money in only two of nine years that he has own the company, Kluger said they still make an average of 2400 inter-island and 400 transpacific transports per annum.
This manifests his willingness to give back to the community that has adopted him.
"You really have to re-invest in the communities that you service," Kluger said. "Although you make money from the community, you have to psychologically and financially give back to the community or else you will lose your connection or ability to understand the community that you serve." Besides Air Ambulance, Andy Kluger runs several other medical-related businesses across the United States.
He believes that in order to become a successful businessman one has to choose a particular industry to focus on.
"You really have to have passion and dedication to one thing," Kluger said. "People make money because they have a passion for a cause."
He added, "Life is being able to do good, and make a contribution. To me, contribution would be the key."
