President and CEO of Techmonde Corp., Matthew Mee-Lee, put together his Honolulu-based global workforce provider to cater to the needs of Hawaiian and mainland companies in need of talent not readily available in the country. With office in the Philippines, Techmonde Corp. is able to provide its clients with world-class skill and expertise in diverse industries including architecture, engineering, accounting, graphic design and web development. Mee-Lee chose this Southeast Asian country because of its relative closeness to Hawaii compared to India, which for years has been the leading outsourcing destination in the world.
"We had considered India but one of the issues was moving there," he said. "It takes a long time to get there and the culture is totally different." According to Mee-Lee, the Philippines boast a deep talent pool of college graduates who have good command of English. And being a U.S. colony for more than half a century, the country has a proclivity to American culture. "Originally, I was pretty skeptical about being able to find the people with the right skill set to do what we need them to do," Mee-Lee added. "But I was very surprised to find really highly-skilled workers."
"Now a lot of them are interested in working for foreign companies. A lot of them want to expand their skill set to different projects."
